Pu'er Tea
Xuan Tea's
Chinese pu
erh tea range is a collection of
special pu'er teas
, including high grade and special grade puer tea.
Pu'er tea
can be bought as
loose pu-erh
or compressed pu-erh. In compressed form pu'er tea is often shaped into "tea bricks", "discs" or "cakes" and sometimes into a bowl, or nest, shape called
tuo cha
. Pu’er tea is classed as either “cooked and raw,” or “black and green.” Cooked pu’er tea undergoes fermentation right after picking, creating a deep earthy flavor. Raw pu-erh tea undergoes a slow natural fermentation. Both varieties increase in fragrance, smoothness, fullness, and value over time, which has earned it the nickname of “ancient tea” in Chinese. We welcome you to view our selection of quality pu'er teas, shown below:

This 2005 cooked pu'er comes from tall mountain arbor trees in Menghai County, southern Yunnan Province, a region known for fantatic pu'er-growing characteristics. Xuan's Tall Mountain Arbor comes from wild arbor trees planted near the end of the Qing Dynasty, most of which are over 100 years old. This pu'er cake has classic characteristics of teas from this type of tree: a rich flavor, sweet finish, and a pure and fragrant aroma.....

This tea is perfect for someone beginning to drink higher quality pu'ers because of its smaller size, high quality leaves, and five year age. On the front of the wrapper is a "green product" seal, a new official certification given to food products that meet Chinese standards for environmental protection.....

2000 "Older and Purer" Special Grade - Pu'er Tea, 357g
from
Menghai Couny, Li Ming Tea Factory
(0 Reviews)

This is a cooked pu’er cake from the year 2000. The Chinese name “yue jiu yue chun” translates into, “the older it gets, the purer it gets.” “Chun” can also be translated into “mellow,” and is used to describe good wine as well. Considering it’s in its 9th year, this tea should be entering its prime shortly, and should continue to age well long after most cooked pu’er teas have begun to decline.....

Another cooked pu'er tea from Menghai County's Yangji Tianyuan factory (see also Tall Mountain Arbor). This tea carries the logo "Jia Ji," meaning grade A. While different tea factories use different standards, this is roughly equivalent to grade 1, which is the most tender grade of pu'er leaves. 2001 "Chitse Beeng" Raw Puer - Pu'er Tea, 357g
from
Xishuangbanna, Menghai County, Meng Hai Tea Factory

This is a 2001 raw pu'er tea from the "Chinese National Native Produce & Animal By-Products Import & Export Corporation, Yunnan Branch," (CNNP) the state-owned organization that controlled pu'er tea manufacturing until around 2003. This cake is from the Menghai Factory. Raw teas from 2001 are starting to become scarce on the market place, and starting to mature as aged pu'er teas, thus making them collectibles which command higher prices. Aged raw pu'ers such as this tea have smooth and complex flavors without the smokiness or bitterness of new raw pu'er teas. They also have a longer and sweeter finish and can be brewed nearly 20 times in a gaiwan or clay pot before losing their flavor, depending on water temperature and time brewed.....

Testimonials
Xuantea, a great taste to give!
This past year I sent out Xuan Tea as thank you gifts. Actually I didn't know if the recipients were tea enthusiasts or not. I decided to create a variety pack of some of my favorites from all over China that would be fun for even a tea novice to try out. Dan and Xuan even helped me pick out a winning selection and ship it out in just a day. I was able to accomplish all this from where I live overseas with just a few clicks. Well it worked -- I got great feedback from all the recipients! Extra special thanks to Dan and Xuan for providing a unique, convenient, and fun way to share my love of tea. I highly recommend.
