Our gift grade spring harvest
guan yin king
- also known as
guan yin wang
or
kwan yin king
- is as good as it gets. Those accustomed to drinking middle and even high grades of
guan yin king
have probably noticed that while there is some variance in flavor, sweetness, and finish, they are all rather similar. Our gift grade
guan yin wang
tea breaks that mold, offering a more floral flavor, a silkier liquid, and a unique nose which all serve to set this tea apart from the standard fare.
Guan yin king in general is a special tea, considered to be the
finest of all oolongs
. Rather than picking the youngest and most tender leaves, like most
green teas
, the leaves used for Guan Yin King are mature and large. After picking, they are shaken in a basket 5 to 6 times to bruise the edges and create the desired level of oxidation. Leaves are then pan fried, rolled, and twirled. The leaves are described as having the head of a dragonfly, the body of a snail, and the legs of a frog. They are also very dense, which is explains why it is called “iron” or “tie.”The best way to drink this tea is with a purple clay pot, and indeed Xuan has a pot in which she only brews
kwan yin king
. The pot should be filled roughly half way with dry leaves (Xuan likes the flavor heavier, so feel free to reduce if you find this too strong). After rinsing the leaves in the pot and quickly pouring out the liquid, tea can then be brewed for a bit longer, closer to a minute. This can be repeated 6-7 times.

A very fine example of Tie Guan Yin tea.
This Guan Yin King tea is the best TieGuanYin I have ever tasted. It has a wonderful aroma and not even a hint of grassiness or bitterness. I could drink this tea all day, every day! The order process was quick and simple and my items were shipped almost immediately. I also tried the Silver Needles White Tea and the Dragon Pearl Jasmine Tea - both of which were also of the same high standard and I would definately recommend!
