Yunnan tea is a loose black tea that is sometimes referred to as dian hong, golden yunnan or yunnan gold,

dian hong literally translates to "yunnan red".

Yunnan tea is a relatively new black tea, with history dating back to 1938 - although Yunnan is one of the first places to produce tea and a cradle for its development. Towards the end of 1938, Yunnan Tea Company invested in production of black tea in two areas, Meng Hai County in the south, and Feng Qing county in the west. Tea produced in Meng Hai County, in Southern Yunnan, will have a more stimulating and crisp taste. Tea from Feng Qing County, in Western Yunnan, will be slightly less invigorating but have a longer, sweeter flavor. This particular tea is from Lin Cang, in Feng Qing County, and has the full name of "Golden Hair Yunnan Black."

Yunnan Province is known as the Land of Eternal Spring in China, and for this reason golden yunnan black tea is able to be harvested between April and November. Tea from the spring harvest in April is considered to be the best because the leaves are the most tender, but the other two harvests are excellent as well. Xuan's excellent yunnan tea, from the April harvest, has a full-bodied, fresh, and stimulating flavor. This particular tea also experiences a noticable maturation of flavor, acquiring more of a honey-like taste over time. According to the farmer, this tea will peak in flavor between 2-3 years after harvesting.

Yunnan Black was the first Chinese tea I tasted and thought - whoa! Light years better than that stuff in the little bags! The honey-like finish in your mouth makes it priceless
